A Tokyo “Double Rainbow!”
What a great way to celebrate Alex’s first-ever trip to Tokyo – with a double rainbow from our Park Hyatt hotel room! It was just one of the many great shots from there – like this panorama shot that shows off the city:
The Park Hyatt Hotel is known as one of Tokyo’s greatest places to stay – and on the right day, if shows off Mount Fuji to you!
I want to take you on a tour of Tokyo’s majestic Park Hyatt hotel – first, here is what it looks like from outside – the view from Tokyo’s Yoyogi park:
The entrance to the hotel lobby is on the 41st floor – a beautiful and serene setting, where you are greeted with enthusiasm and professionalism…and if you wander down the hall, you will find yourself in a cool library walkway:
We chose to stay at the Park Hyatt for two reasons: first, it is listed everywhere as the best hotel in the city, and it was also made iconic by the great film “Lost In Translation”:
Bill Murray’s Park Hyatt!
One of the best things about staying at the Park Hyatt is looking for scenes from the Bill Murray film, like the legendary “New York” bar on the 52nd floor:
We had drinks there several times during our stay, enjoying the band- a quartet fronted by a singer who also wailed on the saxophone – a terrific band performing every night – oh, the only thing better was the view: especially the red “warning” lights:
The “New York Bar!”
We had drinks several times in the iconic “New York” bar, where Bill Murray met Scarlett Johansson for the first time – while watching the jazz quartet performing – same as we did!
This quartet was terrific – here is a clip of their performance, including the lead singer’s wailing saxophone!
Great Music! Great View! Great Drinks Too!
While listening to this terrific jazz quartet, we enjoyed the drinks as well:
So as you can see, we enjoyed the bar – Alex and my son Jeff discussed how often he would try to come back in using our room number to get drinks – but at the end of the day, it was worth it, because the view at night is spectacular:
Tokyo’s “Red Light” District – In The Air
The buildings in Tokyo all flash red warning lights for aircraft – and since the Park Hyatt has a completed unobstructed view of the city, the result is great…even during the day, you can take pictures from various spots inside the hotel lobby to see all of Tokyo:
Perhaps my favorite shot of all was when I captured sunset from our room – but used the building’s angled shape to give me a mirrored effect!;
The lights of Tokyo are perfect for mirrored images, and I shared with you a video that captured them brilliantly:
Click here to see my story of these mirrored “Tokyo Dreams”:
And of course, you can’t visit Tokyo and not try to hit most of the scenes from “Lost In Translation”:
It’s a great film, and you can read some fun behind-the-scenes moments here:
We explored a lot of nightlife in Tokyo as well, including a memorable evening in the Golden Gai district:
Any night that includes live musical performances by your bartender – AND a stop at Coco Curry has to be shared – and I did so here:
Finally, while Alex and I stayed at the Park Hyatt, Jeff bunked with Godzilla:
That’s right, Godzilla was attached to his hotel to promote the new film – and the trailer looks amazing – check it out here:
Bravo to the entire staff of the Park Hyatt hotel for a memorable stay!
