Hey! Anyone Got $3-$7 And Wants To See The Beatles LIVE?

Talk about the deal of the century! It was 50 years ago that The Beatles conquered America and played at the legendary Hollywood Bowl, and I was lucky enough to be at the 50th anniversary celebration! Here’s my report with pics and video!

First, a bit of Beatles history:

Beatles Hollywood Bowl

The Beatles At The Hollywood Bowl!

Yes, it was August 23, 1964 when The Beatles played the legendary Hollywood Bowl…Bob Eubanks booked The Beatles’ 23 August 1964 performance – yes, the original host of “The Newlywed Game!” Capitol Records recorded their performance with the intent of releasing a live album.

Here is a clip from that incredible night – The Beatles performing “All My Loving” from 1964:

And thanks to the website “rarebeatles.com”, here is a rare color photograph of the band that night:

The Beatles Live At The Hollywood Bowl was released much later on an album and CD commemorating that legendary night…

It really is amazing to hear the total and complete pandemonium when they performed…so naturally, fifty years later did little to dim the enthusiasm when The Hollywood Bowl celebrated with an amazing night of Beatles music!

First, look at that picture from “www.theuntz.com” – the beautiful Hollywood Bowl is located just off Highland Avenue in the heart of Hollywood…a terrific place to see and hear music!

And thanks to

And now, 50 years later to the day, here is the Beatles 50th anniversary performance at The Hollywood Bowl!

50 years later, to the day, I am at the Hollywood Bowl for the anniversary performance – led by Dave Stewart from the Eurythmics – a celebration of the 30-minute performance!

And here is how it looked to the 17,000+ who were there:

Beatles 50th anniversary

Bob Eubanks, best known as the Host of “The Newlywed Game”, was the promoter who got The Beatles to perform for $25,000…he told a great story about how he got it…nobody else would pay that price! Then, he read an email from Paul McCartney, who told everyone to celebrate, and share peace and love for each other…and then a collection of musicians performed the entire original 30 minute concert, including this great song…”Twist And Shout”…

The first half of the show was the entire show from 1964 – now covered by artists such as Martina McBride and Billy Ray Cyrus…then they came back and performed an hour of pure classic Beatles such as:

Hey Jude – 17,000 iphones strong!

Watch as 17,000 people sing along to “Hey Jude”…and yes, iPhones are the new “lighter”…everyone singing along to the classic Beatles tune…

Beatles Hey Jude tribute

Yes, it was just as magical as you can imagine….I have read some “less-than-positive” reviews, but everyone was there to honor The Beatles, and I liked that it didn’t just sound like a big cover band..there were unique voices all night, including Martina McBride, who did a flawless version of “Let It Be..”

And for the finale, an “everybody back on stage” version of “All You Need Is Love…” closed out the show on an upbeat note!

It was a great night of Beatles music…at a great venue for live music…kudos to The Hollywood Bowl!
