If you are a fan of Paul McCartney, there was some great news announced the other day! “The Paul McCartney Archive Collection” announced two new reissues coming in September!

“Venus & Mars”

This terrific album always suffered a bit by coming out right after “Band On The Run”, one of the greatest albums ever released.

However, the opening salvo of “Venus & Mars / Rockshow” is a terrific way to begin, and other classic songs on the album include “Letting Go”, “Love In Song” and the smash hit “No Matter What The Man Said.”

McCartney loved this music more than we know…because he keeps singing it! Here is Macca performing “Venus And Mars / Rock Show” in 2012:

“Venus And Mars” was the first of two albums to feature what many regard as the perfect Wings line-up, with the Paul and Linda McCartney, Denny Laine, guitarist Jimmy McCulloch and drummer Joe English. This is the group that is on the live “Wings Across America” recording. “Venus And Mars” was recorded in New Orleans and Los Angeles. As Paul remembers:

“I felt really comfortable with that band. I had written Venus And Mars songs in Jamaica – we were getting around a bit in those days! – and had the album pretty much mapped out. Even though we didn’t use the style of New Orleans on the album, it influenced the way we felt about the music and added to the spirit.”

“At The Speed Of Sound” was released in March 1976, and included the smash hit single ‘Silly Love Songs’- and the album was McCartney’s most successful American chart album – seven consecutive weeks at Number One!

As the press announcement says, Paul has personally supervised all aspects of the reissues. The remastering work was done at Abbey Road by the same team who have worked on all the reissues as well as The Beatles’ catalogue.
